River House

8x10 oil on Raymar panel

This painting was a gift for good friends.
On the flea market front, I went to the Denton Station Coop Antique Mall in Denton, Maryland, with my friend Amanda last week.  It was loaded with great stuff.    I'll be drawing some of my finds in the future but had to share this treasure.

It's a wagon bench in great condition.  Super comfortable and sits next to my garden.  I couldn't resist painting the legs blue.  The antique malls and flea markets are popping up everywhere now that my eyes are searching for them.

Flea Market Find

Yesterday I went to a flea market, gardened, oil painted on my town banner which is hanging in the garage, and painted furniture.  I had this piece of furniture up in the attic and I needed another table for the porch.

Out came the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint -old white.  In no time at all, the table was done.  Love this paint.  After struggling with oil paints, this water based paint is very relaxing.

You can't tell but the blue bleeds through the white.  I also painted this house I found at the flea market for $4 with Duck Egg Blue.  I guess it is an old letter box-it has a combination and brass door and a slot for the mail.  I forgot to do a before shot.  It was pine wood.

This is a pretty small slot for a letter.  Maybe it's a bank?

My trusty companion was bored and a little irritated by this whole adventure.

I then painted a clay flower pot and an olive oil bottle, both blue.  A little thyme in the pot and a sprig of eucalyptus in the bottle.  Eucalyptus is the exact same color of Duck Egg Blue.  Next time I'll photograph out of the shadows so you can see what I'm talking about.  So the table needs new knobs-maybe something with a fern on it.  Then I'll wax the top to make it water resistant.

Wolf Kahn

8x8" oil
NFS

I love Wolf Kahn's work.  This is me copying of one of his paintings, "The Red Barn."  I love the way he approaches architecture and his use of color.  Generally his most famous pieces are pastels -huge ones.   It was time to put up a new post since I've been admiring Crystal's painting of Martha on my blog for long enough.  I've been painting my fanny off lately but can't post all the stuff I'm doing yet.  So that's that.

Martha by Crystal Cook

Here's another reason to blog.  You make wonderful friends like the tremendously talented Crystal Cook.
Crystal captured my Martha's liquid eyes and sweet soul in this fabulous watercolor.  If you aren't following Crystal, you should!  CRYSTAL COOK
You can't buy this original print because I already did, but she might be open to commissions...
Wait til you see what Crystal does with portraits-especially children,  and horses.  Plus, she's full of good information about art and she's a happy person who spreads good cheer.
Thanks Crystal!
