Everyday Matters Challenge #4-Draw your mug.
This is a mug from Poland, given to me by my brother-in-law, Tom, for Christmas. It holds a huge amount of coffee. In the morning when I fill it up, I feel very rich. I had never seen a mug like this before and now I'm seeing Polish pottery everywhere, particularly in antique malls.
Here's a recent piece I finished with chalk paint. I love the blast of tangerine when you open the drawers. Martha approves. While working on that piece, my friend Amanda, drove in with a table. She was on her way to Good Will to drop it off and thought of me.
So here's the table before
And, here's the table painted with Paloma, a gray Annie Sloan chalk paint. Don't you think the grunge-yellow of the garage floor sets off the soft lavender gray?
And then I decided to repaint it a two tone Duck Egg Blue and Old White. And it may get painted again! Cause chalk paint is just that easy.
My assistant abandoned me to snack. She bumps into the sweet orange cherry tomato bush til the fruit falls and gobbles what she can reach. Then she waits for more to grow. A new crop appears daily.
MINE...

The cousins we stayed with in London this spring, had mugs like these. We set out every morning fortified with a massive mug of tea. Duck egg blue is one of my favorite colors. That Martha...I've spent only about 4 months of the last 24 years without a yellow lab. I don't like it much.
Hi Chris - love your mug - you are right I do not think I have ever seen one like it. Love your peach drawers you did in chalk paint and the table with the blue legs - I've been enjoying the yellow cherry tomatoes as well. As for your dear friend who is waiting for a few to fall - well I say you should share ! Hugs Debbie
Mary-Martha is our first lab and I've never experienced such a happy-go-lucky, full of mischief dog quite like her. She has trained me well.
Debbie-we go to the plant for treats often through the day. If I were to let her in the garden, she'd gorge herself and probably eat the entire plant. Labs have no limits.
charming mug. I like that you feel rich drinking coffee--I have the same feeling. I like your furniture. It inspires me to paint something here--(looking around) but what? Finally--you have a dog that eats tomatoes?? wow.
Thanks Celeste-I just grab that piece of furniture in my home that is looking neglected and dress it up with paint. Suddenly, it becomes the focus of attention. Yes, my tomato eater. Also loves zinnias, roses, herbs...
What a great mug and with a story too. You have a very clever Labrador. We had one years ago, all she thought about was food bless her, she would have loved that cool trick with the tomatoes!
I love that you painted your mug CHris, it is so cheerful! And that dresser and table looks amazing!!! Do you sand it after you paint it Chris? How do you get that distressed look?
Thanks Ann and Crystal. Crystal, I do very little sanding. Just enough to bring out the design in the piece or to smooth out the little globs of paint I might have left. But, yes, sanding is the key to the "shabby chic" or "distressed" look.
Love the mug Chris!! Its so interesting how the style of most countries is instantly recognisable.Martha is such a darling!!
You've inspired me to try some renovation myself, the table looks great!
Azra-looking forward to seeing your future postings on renovation as well as your paintings!
